Current research interests: Neutrinoless double beta decay, WIMP dark matter, sterile neutrinos
Prof. Han obtained his bachelor degree from Peking University in 2002 and Ph.D. from Yale University in 2009. His doctoral work was to search for stable strange quark matter in lunar soil using the Yale Tandem Accelerator as a high-sensitivity mass spectrometer. As a postdoc, he worked at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab on the reactor neutrino experiment KamLAND and the neutrinoless double-beta decay experiment CUORE. In 2014, he moved back to Yale, where he kept his involvement in CUORE and started working on the sterile neutrino experiment PROSPECT. He joined SJTU faculty in March 2016.
At SJTU, his main focus is the PandaX-III project, a neutrinoless double-beta decay of Xe-136 project, aiming to measure the fundamental properties of neutrinos and to explore the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe. We search for the extremely rare decay using a high pressure xenon gas Time Projection Chamber (TPC) with 200 kg of 90% enriched Xe-136. He is leading prototype detector testing as well as the main TPC design and construction. He is also working on CUORE, an Italian project to search for neutrinoless double-beta decay of Te-130 using bolometers. His main contribution there is data analysis and enriched TeO2 crystal production.
Opportunities to join the group are available at undergrad, graduate and postdoc level. Please send me an email for more details.
